Uche Kalu happy with progress under Keshi

Enyimba striker Uche Kalu has said that he is happy with the progress he has made since he joined the home-based Super Eagles under Stephen Keshi.    Kalu told Goal.com that he has learnt so much from the coaching crew and is ready to contribute his quota to the progress of the team.
"I am so happy with what I have learnt from big boss. My game has improved and I know other players from the Nigeria Premier League would always attest to this fact. It is good that there is an enabling environment for the home lads to thrive. And I am sure we will take the opportunity to improve every aspect of our game," said Kalu.
Kalu failed to tie down a place with Moroccan side Raja Casablanca recently but is enjoying his return home. The training at home before the game against Rwanda was an eye opener for us," he said. Lawyer to the player Chike Onyeacho noted that Kalu is now an improved player.
"There is excitement in the air for the home based players and Uche Kalu immediately they came back from Kigali called me that this is one opportunity that they intend to grab with all seriousness.
"I am happy for the players in Nigeria because it is a new dawn. And I hope that it will change the game for good in the country," Onyeacho said.

Keshi: Yak, Osaze, others not blacklisted

Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi has opened up to SuperSport.com that the local-based lads were by far the best performers against Rwanda.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria held their Rwandan counterparts to a goalless draw in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying in Kigali on Wednesday.
Keshi in the game against Rwanda started three local-based stars in Ejike Uzoenyi, Godfrey Oboabona and Azubuike Egwuekwe.
He also named four other NPL stars - Chigozie Agbim, Gabriel Reuben, Papa Idris and Uche Kalu - on the bench.
Keshi was clearly impressed with Enugu Rangers' winger, Uzoenyi during his chat with SuperSport.com and rated him above the rest of the starters for the Nigerian squad.
The Nigerian coach popularly called 'Big Boss' added that Uzoenyi was by miles the top man ahead of the likes of Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Peter Osaze Odemwingie and Ahmed Musa in performance during the game.
"Ejike for me was our best player among those that started. He was the one initiating almost every of our attacks even while we had the likes of Yakubu, Osaze and Musa on the pitch.
"But that doesn't mean Yakubu, Osaze and Musa and the rest of the squad aren't good. Footballers at times do have their off periods and in this case it happened to most of our foreign-based players and it only justifies that we have talent back home in the local league," Keshi remarked.
The former Mali and Togo coach when prodded further on his plans to drop a handful of foreign-based stars who did not lift their performance in Kigali, Keshi denied outright such move.
"Suppose Ejike didn't perform, will people also go to town to say I'm planning to drop him and other local-based players? I'll tell you that all that is mere speculation. I didn't tell anyone such. Because we are building doesn't mean we will pull down the old side and bring in a new team entirely. It's a gradual process in building a strong squad for the country," Keshi reacted to reports claiming he plans to drop Yakubu, Odemwingie, Dickson Etuhu and Joel Obi.
Keshi also said he is ready to keep the squad against Rwanda for subsequent games as he continues building the side.
The 50-year-old is also on the lookout for new addition to strengthen the squad especially from the home front, as he believes his team are still work in progress.
"We have games coming up against Gabon and Peru, and I won't just wake up and throw away this team. It's a building process we've started and it's a long-term plan. I will be looking for players to bring into the side to help out because we are not there yet," Keshi rounded off.

Odemwingie at peace with Hodgson

Osaze Odemwingie’s hat-trick against Wolves ruined Mick McCarthy but built bridges with his own manager Roy Hodgson.
West Brom striker Odemwingie had a disagreement with Hodgson, 64, earlier in the season, with the boss unhappy at the number of injuries the player was suffering.
But Odemwingie insists all that is forgotten and the relationship is now solid.
He said, “We are fine. And, if we weren’t, I would have been talking about leaving. He is an elderly person and in my country we always respect our elders.
“Sometimes I felt it was a bit harsh and I said that to him, but he said I shouldn’t take it in a bad way. He said he was frustrated that I wasn’t available and that was it.
“I’m very happy I could put aside all of those bad feelings and now I can relax more and have confidence in myself and the team.”
Hodgson has been linked to the England job and will have talks over a new contract in the summer, but Odemwingie hopes he stays.
“He has had success here and he has already built relationships with people in the club so he would be welcome,” said Odemwingie.
“When someone new comes in you have to start from the beginning, so if we can all get what we’re looking for this year then why change when things are going fine?
“I hope he stays, of course.”
West Brom’s win moved them eight points clear of the bottom three and Odemwingie, who now has seven league goals, feels the gap has all but guaranteed the team’s safety.
He said, “All of that pressure was taken off our shoulders and we are more sure of our place next season.
“I wouldn’t say the gap is what makes me confident. What makes me confident is every time we lose games at home we go away and get three points against good teams.”

Mikel snubs Villas-Boas

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi is believed to be among the senior Blues players that are not happy with manager Andre Villas-Boas’ handling of the team.
The Super Eagles player, who has been left out of the national squad by coach Stephen Keshi, deliberately ignored Villas-Boas’ handshake after he was substituted for Salomon Kalou in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham in the FA Cup on Saturday.
It is becoming apparent that the Portuguese has little control over some of the players even though he continually denies any friction with them.
According to ESPN, there was the evidence of player power when the network saw Didier Drogba host an impromptu team talk in the tunnel shortly before the start of the second half.
Drogba and Frank Lampard started the game on the bench, a situation that did not go down well with the players.
The players bypassed Villas-Boas and took decision into their hands when skipper John Terry visited referee Martin Atkinson’s room during the interval to complain about what Chelsea thought was Birmingham goalkeeper Colin Doyle’s first-half time wasting.
It is believed Drogba, Terry and Lampard have considerable influence over the other players, and Mikel, who joined the club from Lyn Oslo in 2006, has since been in loyal ties with the trio.
Villas-Boas, however, will not accept there was mutiny in the team as he maintained he was in control. He was amazed last week when details of the secret meeting he had with the senior players leaked to the press.
It was also revealed that some of the players have been reaching out to their former manager, Jose Mourinho, discussing issues of tactics at Chelsea with the Real Madrid manager.
When asked if his backing as manager was based on the team’s results, Villas-Boas responded bluntly: “No, it’s unconditional.”

Keshi ‘ll restore Eagles’ confidence- Etuhu

Eagles’ midfielder, Dickson Paul Etuhu, has backed Nigeria’s Coach, Stephen Keshi, to restore the country's enviable place in world football soon.

The Fulham star, who is one of only 11 Europe-based stars called up for a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Rwanda, has also said he would fight for his first-team place at his London club.
Commenting on how he felt the first time he was handed a call by the Eagles, coach, Etuhu said:

It was a memorable day, it was a dream came true and I felt honoured when it came, it has been my dream to play for Nigeria all along, even when I was at Norwich City, we talked about it and I always tell my teammates then that I am sure I will play for my country one day and the day I was called, I was on top of the world and happy that I was about actualising one of my dreams as a player. “I was not treated well by the coach, you are in charge of a team for a year and you did not get in touch with one of the players you feel is still relevant. I respect everybody and deserve respect too.

I was not interested in playing under him because I was not treated well, the fact remains that I love Nigeria and wanted to represent it when called upon, but I rejected the call to play against Ghana because I was seen as a second fiddle. I was called because some players were not available. I am not going to rubbish myself like that. That was it.

“The first day I met him, I knew why he was the captain of the team for 14 years. He is a man who knows what he is doing and will look you straight in your eyes to tell you what he wants from you and otherwise. If you do it well, he applauds you and if you did not, he shouts at you till you adjust. He is just like the big coaches I have worked with in England. I see him succeeding. It was marvellous. We are together like a family, as a matter of fact, since I have been coming to camp, that is the first time I have seen a very high spirit in camp.

The training is like matches where everybody puts in his best. We always encourage ourselves and that will go a long way in the team. Yes. He can make us great again. His programmes at training have shown that we should all cooperate with him and give him a chance to build a solid team. No big team in the world springs up in a day, it is a continuous process, the likes of Spain, Brazil, Barcelona, Manchester United etc. We need to have continuity in the team as it helps a team to be strong and have a direction.

At a time, I was playing regularly and that is the joy of every player, but when I was not, I became sad. I wanted to keep playing, so I was frustrated when the coach felt otherwise, but I am back in the team now and hope I will keep playing regularly for the team because that will help me.

I am concentrating on my career. I want to retain my spot in the starting team. So, I am not thinking of a transfer now, but in football, you can't say. Our business is moving. That was playing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It was the highest level any player could play at, so being there was a great thing to me. It was a dream come true. That is my greatest moment as a footballer.

Chelsea opens academy in Lagos

Premiership giant, Chelsea, is planning to open a multi-million Naira football academy in Lagos. The club's Nigerian representative, Noah Olivier and President Soccer Africa Sports Management, Dominic Egbukwu, disclosed to Daily Sunsports that the camp would be sited on Victoria Island, Lagos, and would serve as Chelsea's breeding ground for promising young Nigerian players.

Said he: “Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa have been picked in Africa by Chelsea FC for its academy camp. My French partner, Olivier, and I have been mandated by Chelsea to take charge of the camp in Nigeria. Initially, they were scared of including Nigeria because of the Boko Haram issue, but we succeeded in convincing them that there was no cause for alarm in Lagos.

“We are expecting a 10-man Chelsea delegation from England any moment from now. They want to come and make inspection before giving us the go-ahead to throw the camp open. “It's going to be a big camp and it will admit about 500 youths between 15 and 18 years old. After screening which will hold at the National Stadium, Lagos, arrangements will be made for the feeder teams of the teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG to come for invitational tournaments. The outstanding players among the the trainees will be given an opportunity to join the Chelsea youth team in England, just like they picked Kenneth Omeruo.”

Meanwhile, Egbukwu has made a passionate appeal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to flush out the bad eggs involved in transfer of Nigerian players abroad. “Most of the so-called FIFA-licenced agents are responsible for frustrating our players. I'm not a FIFA agent and I don't want to be because I discovered that most of them use their licences to deceive players, promise them heaven and earth and at the end of the day, they would tie them down with contract papers and stay on top of the deal for their own selfish interest.

That was how they frustrated Kayode Olanrewaju and Gbenga Orukoyo's move to Dynamo Kiev and SuperSport respectively. This is not good for Nigerian football,” the former Enyimba player lamented.

EXCLUSIVE: City plan £35m Benfica swoop

Manchester City are ready to make a £35million bid for Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.
The Argentina international is also on Manchester United's radar, but City are hoping to beat their local - and title - rivals to his signature by simply out-bidding them.
City officials are understood to have contacted their Benfica counterparts this week and made clear their desire to sign the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.
Gaitan is viewed as one of the most exciting and dynamic young players in the world, and impressed in Benfica's Champions League encounters with United earlier this season.
City had him watched in a recent Portuguese League Cup game against Maritimo, and football administrator Brian Marwood is understood to have begun the process of trying to formalise a deal with Benfica.
United have been keeping tabs on Gaitan for the past year and had their scouts assess him last month, having also had him watched in games against Naval and Sporting Lisbon earlier this season.
But with manager Sir Alex Ferguson understood to have been set a spending limit of around £30m to spend in the summer, Gaitan looks to be out of reach - unless he raises additional funds through player sales.
Gaitan has a release clause of around £35m written into his contract and City are said to be willing to meet that figure in order to get their man.
United may instead switch their attention to Gaitan's team-mate Javi Garcia, a more defensive-minded midfielder who also impressed in those Champions League games against the Reds.

United defender Vidic hoping to return before end of the season

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a knee injury and could even be ready to play by the end of the season.
Vidic had surgery on his right cruciate ligament after suffering the injury in United's Champions League defeat at Basle in early December, and it was originally feared he could be out for as long as 12 months.
However, Sportsmail understands the former Serbia centre half is making rapid progress as he works on his fitness and is putting significant weight back on his knee during his rehabilitation sessions.
Vidic has been aiming to be fit by the time United head to Asia on a pre-season tour in July and that remains the target set by United's medical staff.
However, there is now an outside chance that the 30-year-old could be ready to play before the end of the season.
Speaking last month, Vidic said: 'Everything is going well. It's progressing in the right way. I have the motivation to work hard and I want to be back as soon as possible.'
Vidic suffered the injury on a night to forget for United, where they crashed out of the Champions League.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said afterwards: 'It is bad news. He will be a loss.
'I thought [the injury] was a bad one when I saw it.'
Ferguson and his medical staff will be mindful of rushing the player back too early. United supporters will likely recall Vidic being brought back from injury when clearly not being fully fit for a Champions League semi-final clash with AC Milan in 2007.
If he is to return for the season's final weeks, the defender could possibly feature in a Manchester derby showdown with City on April 28.
The defensive crisis has been so serious at Old Trafford this season, with Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones also having spells on the sidelines, that midfielder Michael Carrick has had to play at the back.
Since joining the Reds in 2006, Vidic has become one of the most important players at the club.
He has helped United to win four league titles, and the European Cup in 2008.

Zlat: Quit Arsenal, Robin

ARSENAL captain Robin Van Persie has been urged to quit the club.

AC Milan superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who destroyed the Gunners in midweek, says RVP must go to become a 'champion'.
He told SunSport: "When you don't win anything for years, people understand why you leave like Cesc Fabregas.
"Football is all about winning. If you don't win you want to go. I don't know Robin personally but I remember him from Holland and what a talent he was — now he is complete.
"I don't know what he is thinking but I know what I would do.
"I have made a lot of moves in my life — I take it as a challenge, an adventure.
"And I have won eight titles in eight years with different clubs in different countries.
"But if you stay in one place all your life it is easy to play football.
"You are at home, you are in the comfort zone.
"But if you move to five different places it is a real test. If you succeed that's when you become a real champion, that's when you get more respect."
Manchester City and Barcelona target Van Persie will have one year left at the Emirates come the summer and he could move for a cut-price fee then.

Even Eden Hazard can't solve Arsenal's issues, says Emmanuel Petit

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has said the current Gunners team is at the 'end of a cycle' - and even signing Belgian wonderkid Eden Hazard is unlikely to improve

them because they need multiple players, and experience.

The 41-year-old was highly critical of his former team, following their humiliating 4-0 Champions League defeat to AC Milan.
Arsene Wenger's men conceded two goals in the first half at the San Siro, with Kevin Prince Boateng and Robinho finding the net.

Milan punished the north London team further in the second half when Robinho scored another and Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted a penalty.
And Petit did not hold back when he spoke to So Foot about the game, calling the match 'a disgrace'.
'I agree with Wenger that it is surely the worst performance of the club in the European Cup,' he said.
'I wondered what had become of the team I knew. It's worse than I thought, It is an abyss that keeps happening weekend after weekend.
'And what is perhaps the most worrying thing is to say that the club will not do anything this summer to stop it.
'They will not return to the transfer market because of the current escalation, and I think they are right.'
The ex-Barcelona and Chelsea player said Arsenal needed a few experienced players - and only signing Lille attacker Hazard, who has been linked with a host of English clubs, would not help.
He added: ‘Signing Eden Hazard would be useful, but what has he done at the top level? In The Champions League? I haven’t seen it.
‘Arsenal need five or six players between 27 and 30, not more youngsters.
'Players with a strong character, who refuse to accept defeat, and are technically good. At the moment, in the middle, there is nothing.’

Petit also questioned the current squad and why Wenger had confidence in players like Andrei Arshavin, Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott.
'Arsenal haven't recovered from the departures of Cesc Fabregas [to Barcelona] and Samir Nasri [to Manchester City],' he continued.
'You have to send out a strong signal. You have to say to Arshavin, and to Rosicky: 'Gentlemen, thank you, but goodbye'. And soon.
'Walcott - somehow he's going to have to reach the next stage. It's been years that he's been at the same level.'

Guus Hiddink named Anzhi Makhachkala manager

Ex-Chelsea caretaker manager Guus Hiddink been appointed manager of Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
The 65-year-old former Russia boss has agreed a contract until the end of the 2012-13 season with the big-spending club who had been linked with ex-England boss Fabio Capello.
His predecessor, Yury Krasnozhan, resigned on Monday after less than two months in charge at Anzhi.
"I'm glad to accept such an opportunity," the Dutchman said.
Hiddink guided Chelsea to FA Cup success in 2009 during his caretaker tenure, having agreed a short-term deal when Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked in February 2009.
Most recently, he managed Turkey but left that post when they failed to qualify for Euro 2012.
As well as being appointed chief coach, Hiddink will also serve as vice-president for development, the Russian club announced.
Hiddink, who returns to Russia nearly two years after his term as national coach ended, said: "At the end of last year, we had long discussions on Anzhi and that's why now I made a prompt decision.
"The most significant thing for me is that the club is building plans on football development in the republic. It's as much important as the sports result of the first team and I'm going to pay special attention to this direction.
"We spoke much with [owner] Suleyman Kerimov about this after which I realized what a huge project I was invited to."
The club, based in Russia's Dagestan republic which borders Georgia and Azerbaijan, was founded in 1991 and enjoyed little success until the arrival of billionaire Kerimov in January 2011.
Since then, Anzhi have signed players such as Brazil World Cup 2002 winner Roberto Carlos, Chelsea full-back Yuri Zhirkov and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o.
The team's players live and train in Moscow due to security problems in Makhachkala and travel nearly 1,250 miles for home matches.
Anzhi are currently in seventh place in the Russian Premier League. Hiddink's first league fixture in charge is on 5 March against Dynamo Moscow when the season recommences after the winter break.

Didier Drogba did not give Chelsea team talk - Andre Villas-Boas

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has reacted angrily to suggestions that influential forward Didier Drogba gave a half-time team talk in their dismal home FA Cup draw against Birmingham.
Daniel Sturridge's second-half goal earned Chelsea a fifth-round replay.
But Villas-Boas dismissed speculation that second-half substitute Drogba was behind their improvement.
"This is ridiculous," said Villas-Boas. "I have nothing to say on that because it makes no sense at all," he added.
"We had opportunities to win the game, but it's never good when you draw at home to a Championship team. It's a poor result."
The 1-1 draw stretches Chelsea's winless run to five matches, bringing more talk of dressing room unrest in what has been a miserable two weeks for the club.
Owner Roman Abramovich has been a regular visitor to the Cobham training ground amid increasing rumours that Villas Boas will be sacked if Chelsea fail to progress past Napoli in their two-legged Champions League tie.
An increasingly disenchanted home support booed as Chelsea left the pitch at the end, venting their displeasure at the Portuguese's decision to take off Juan Mata, who had missed a first-half penalty, and there seemed to be sections of fans singing the name of former manager Jose Mourinho.
Villas-Boas, whose side are fifth in the Premier League, admitted that confidence was low at Stamford Bridge.
"It is normal," he said. "We need an extra mental push to feel the confidence. That comes with results and, until you get out of the cycle, it perpetuates. We don't have enough good results at the moment.
"We are still in two competitions. The game on Tuesday against Napoli is the first leg and we have a wait for the second leg at Stamford Bridge, and regarding the FA Cup we are still in it.
"We have a difficult game against Napoli but we have a chance for sure."
Villas-Boas admitted that 'levels of anxiety suffered' after Birmingham's 20th-minute opener but praised his Chelsea side's reaction following Sturridge's 62nd minute equaliser.
"The team commitment was there straight after the setback," added the Chelsea manager. "And the response was there. If the penalty goes in we have more time to find the winner.
"But, with the game 1-0, we didn't have too much time to then go on and score the winner. We managed to create some good opportunities but not enough to win.
"The first half was a little bit too much feet to feet and less into space.
"We were much more direct in the second half. We wanted to up the tempo and made the decision to use Didier as a target man."
On his injured duo, captain John Terry and fellow defender Ashley Cole, Villas-Boas is still hopeful that both might yet play a part in Tuesday night's Champions League last 16 first-leg clash in Naples.
"Both are in with a bigger chance," he said. "Hopefully, Ashley will be training tomorrow.
"John Terry is very doubtful but we will take him and see if he can make it."
The Cup replay against Birmingham at St Andrew's will not take place until Tuesday, 6 March (1945 GMT).

The vitamin tycoon who boosted Javier Hernandez's career

"It was me who gave 'El Chicharito' his debut," says Jorge Vergara belligerently.
Clearly the multi-millionaire owner of Mexico's most popular football team, Club Deportivo Guadalajara - or Chivas to give them their nickname, is not a man who hides in the shadows of the boardroom.

Jorge Vergara Club Deportivo Guadalajara owner
In an era when directors and owners of football clubs are becoming as well-known as their managers, Vergara has no qualms about meddling in on-pitch matters.
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez's senior bow for Chivas, as a teenager in 2006, was a case in point. Now 23, Hernandez, who is widely known by his nickname Chicharito - which translated into Spanish means 'little pea', established himself quickly at Old Trafford, helping United to their 19th League title last May.
"The then-coach didn't want him to debut. It is amazing how some coaches think," Vergara recalls with a headshake of derision. "So I kind of threatened him and said 'If you don't want him, I'll take him to the United States'."
It was no hollow threat. Since Vergara took over Chivas in 2002, he has expanded the brand to launch teams in the United States and China.
The original club is based in Mexico's second city, Guadalajara, where Vergara is from. He made his fortune through vitamin supplements and moved into football by buying his local club when it was at its lowest ebb, on and off the pitch.
"It was financially broke. Sports-wise it was a complete failure and it was in really deep trouble," Vergara, who is also a film producer, adds.
"So we launched new marketing strategies, we cleaned up the shirt which had 30 different sponsors on it, to dignify the brand. We started to recruit youngsters to build for the medium to long-term rather than just from one season to the next."
He also built the club a beautifully designed new ground, the Omnilife Stadium,  named after his vitamin supplements company. Manchester United travelled to Guadalajara to play a friendly against Chivas to unveil the new stadium  as part of the deal which took Chicharito to Old Trafford.
The philosophy of Chivas is based on two things: youth and Mexico. Chivas is almost unique in the world for fielding only Mexican players.
"The other team doing this is Athletic Bilbao. But it's harder for them, they can only choose from the Basque country," Vergara says.
As well as Hernandez, other promising young players to emerge from Guadalajara include Arsenal's Carlos Vela and Fulham defender Carlos Salcido.
So how does it feel to be known as the man who sold 'El Chicharito' to Manchester United in April 2010?
Vergara agreed to sell the Guadalajara-born striker to United for a fee believed to have been about £6m.
"People say it was a steal. Well, I did make 25,000% profit on him, so it wasn't that bad," he says.
Plus, the deal helped put Chivas on the map. "It opened doors for us," Vergara says. "It has been good for Mexico too. [Hernandez] has given people another impression of Mexico and of success here."
This season, however, success has been noticeably lacking at Chivas. The team have only gained a single point from six fixtures, leaving them firmly planted to the bottom of the table.
On the day BBC Sport met Vergara, Chivas lost at home 2-0 to Tijuana, prompting the coach Fernando Quirarte to resign. He was the 15th different coach during the Vergara reign.
While the team's emphasis on youth is admirable, it is no guarantee of trophies for Mexico's most-successful team. Some fans fear the club is becoming a feeder team for Europe's elite and any future 'Chicharito' will be out of the door before Chivas can reap any benefit.
But Vergara has dismissed these concerns. "We want this to become the best team in the world," he says, without a hint of irony.
"El Chicharito is an example of what we want to create.
"We want 11 like him. Not just how he plays, but who he is, the principles he works by and what he believes."
It is a sentiment most Manchester United fans would undoubtedly echo.

‘Affectionate’ Mancini wants bad boy Balotelli to ‘behave’ himself for rest of season

Manchester City Roberto Mancini has told troublemaker Mario Balotelli to behave himself for the rest of the season. Balotelli faces another test of his suspect temperament as Cuneyt Cakir takes charge of the clash with Porto The Turkish referee is the same person who gave the Italian ace a red card against Dynamo Kiev in this competition in March last year.
Mancini has told Balotelli that he wants him for the final third of the season. "I spoke to Mario two weeks ago. I said ''Please, we have 13 games to play in the Premier League plus Europa League matches''," Mancini was quoted, as saying by The Sun. "I said to him ''Try to have good behaviour on the pitch and think only about football.''
Mario is an important player for us, he has good quality," he said. He expressed hope that Balotelli will be fine for the coming two months. "I think if his head will be OK in the next two months, he will be an important player for us," he added. Balotelli, 21, has picked up 17 yellow cards in 49 games for City as well as three reds and the retrospective four-match ban for his stamp on Scott Parker.

Zambia moves to fourth position in African football

Zambia, the 2012 African champions, have shot up from 16th to fourthposition in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings as they also break into the top 50 in the world for the first time in
11 years after winning the Africa Cup of Nations.
Zambia moved 28 places in the FIFA world rankings, from 71st last month to 43rd after shocking many football pundits with superb football at Africa's soccer showpiece football event co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon from Jan 21 to Feb 12.
On their way to be crowned African champions, Zambia beat Senegal 2-1, drew 2-2 with Libya and beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in the group stages before humbling Sudan 3-0 in the quarter-finals. They edged Ghana 1-0 in the semi-finals before beating a star-studded Cote d'Ivoire 8-7 on penalties in the final after a goalless draw in regulation time.
"Zambia has touched the sky of Africa. But Zambia has to touch the stars. It is a fantastic moment for Zambia. I am very proud to be with you at this time. But we have to be humble," Herve Renard, the Zambian coach was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
Cote d'Ivoire, despite losing the finals are number one in Africa, followed by Ghana and Algeria.

PSG eyeing Liverpool's Suarez

Paris St. Germain have offered beleaguered Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to join the French club.
PSG tried to sign exiled Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez and Brazillian Alexandre Pato in the January window but failed in their attempt.
Meanwhile, Suarez has faced strong criticism from the English fans, players and managers for refusing to shake hands with Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra.
Suarez and Evra were involved in an altercation when the two met in an English premier league match in October. The Frenchman accused the Uruguayan for racially abusing him following which the Football Association (FA) banned him for eight games.
Although Suarez has a contract on Merseyside to 2016, the Dailymail reported that PSG are confident he would consider escaping his current controversy and joining one of his closest friends, Diego Lugano, at the club.
Suarez was signed by Liverpool for 22.8 million pounds in January last year. He has scored 13 goals in 36 appearance for the club.(IANS)

Fabio Cappello Supports Terry

John Terry has been backed by his manager Fabio Capello
Fabio Capello has risked the wrath of his employers the Football Association after expressing his disapproval at their decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy.

In candid interview with Italian state broadcaster Rai 1 Capello has openly backed the Chelsea man, who on Friday learnt he will not captain his country at the European Championship.
"I completely disagree with the FA about the John Terry decision and I have told that to the chairman," said Capello.
"The court will decide. It's going to be civil justice, not sports justice, to decide if John Terry committed that crime that he is accused of.
"I considered and still consider Terry as the England captain. I think we first should wait for the trial conclusion."
Terry is awaiting trial after being accused of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand in a Premier League game which took place in October. The case will be heard on July 9, just days after the end of Euro 2012.
FA chairman David Bernstein contacted the other members of the organisation's 12-strong board on Thursday to seek their views on Terry's captaincy, before informing both the player and Capello of their decision.
"Following the decision to adjourn the court case against John Terry to July, The Football Associationconfirm he will not captain the England team until the allegations against him are resolved," read a statement released on the FA's official website on Friday.
"The FA Board expected the trial to be concluded prior to the European Championship. Further to Wednesday's confirmation that the trial will not take place until after the tournament, the Board has discussed the matter in detail and has collectively decided it is in the interests of all parties that John has the responsibilities of captaincy removed at this time.
"This decision has been taken due to the higher profile nature of the England captaincy, on and off the pitch, and the additional demands and requirements expected of the captain leading into and during a tournament.
"The FA Board can confirm that he has not been excluded from the squad and that Fabio Capello is free to select him for the Holland fixture on 29 February and the European Championship.
"This decision in no way infers any suggestion of guilt in relation to the charge made against John Terry. The FA will be not be making any further comment on this matter."

Super Bowl ratings final: Most watched show in history!

UPDATE: In final Nielsen ratings, NBC’s Super Bowl XLVI broke records to become the most-watched TV telecast of all time.
Sunday’s game delivered an incredible 111.3 million viewers, just barely edging out last year’s 111.0 million viewers. Among adults 18-49, the game garnered 40.5 rating. It marks the seventh straight year of Super Bowl audience increases.
NBC’s post-game presentation of the second season opener of The Voice (arguably the more important telecast for the network) garnered a likewise stunning 36.7 million viewers, becoming the highest-rated non-sports telecast in six years. The Voice is also up 47 in the demo vs. Fox’s post-Bowl airing ofGlee last year.
The Sunday telecasts are a big win for NBC, despite being marred in the press by M.I.A.’s“inappropriate gesture” during Madonna’s half-time show.
One could argue that a broadcast network has never needed this massive ratings surge more than NBC does right now. The network’s new fall shows largely withered and NBC’s overall ratings health is anemic. While the Super Bowl is notoriously unreliable for giving host networks any long-term ratings increases, the wildly successful re-launch of competition series The Voice is a good sign. Coupled with tonight’s series premiere of Smash, the network has a shot at using last night’s massive numbers to jump-start some of its midseason time periods.
MOST-WATCHED PROGRAMS IN U.S. TELEVISION HISTORY
1. 111.3 Million – Super Bowl XLVI, NBC (Last Night’s Game)
2. 111.0 Million – Super Bowl XLV, Fox
3. 106.5 Million – Super Bowl XLIV, CBS
4. 106.0 Million – M.A.S.H. Finale, CBS
5. 98.7 Million – Super Bowl XLIII, NBC

Chelsea 3 Manchester United 3

FULL TIME
90+4 min Cahill!! Wow! Shades of his marvellous goal against QPR on the first day of the season. Rasping shot from 30 yards and once again De Gea tips it over the bar! Nothing doing from the corner.
90+3 min United have a corner. Giggs takes it. I think it's Evans attempting to dive in. Slight suggestion of a handball. Webb waves away the appeals. Carrick has a shot from long range but Cech saves.
90+1 min What a save by De Gea! Marvellous curling strike by Mata! That's the sort of free kick which routinely draws the "two keepers wouldn't have saved that" line, but one of them just did! That ball was destined for the top corner. De Gea, at full stretch, turns it around the post. Amazing.
90 min Martin Tyler is talking some right nonsense at the moment. His vocabulary is stuck on "adjective". Four minutes of added time. Scholes fouls Luiz, Chelsea free kick 25 yards out.
89 min Meireles' delivery is allowed to bounce, but United are able to take it clear.
88 min It's Chelsea looking for the winner here. A deep cross is nodded behind for a corner by Ferdinand. Villas-Boas is now stood up straight on his hind legs.
87 min Meireles! Close with a header from Malouda's cross. The chance was made by Luiz. What is he doing in the final third given the state of his game? You gotta love him, haven't you?
86 min Five minutes left. Is this going to happen? United are on the ball.
Goal84 min GOAL!! Chelsea 3 Man Utd 3 (Hernandez)
Wow. Where did this come from? Blimey, Chelsea. Essien gave the ball away stupidly there with an attempted shot from the left flank that almost goes out for a throw on the right. Mata kept it in but conceded a throw. United have it up the other end in a flash. Rooney's low shot is well saved by Cech, but reaches Giggs on the left. He has time to pick out a perfect ball for Hernandez, who can scarcely miss, not least because there's not a Chelsea player within two yards of him.
79 min Scholes ticks the box marked "too old" on his self-assessment form with an aimless ball towards no-one in particular over the Chelsea defence at the end of some patient build-up play from United. Goal kick to Chelsea.
77 min Torres! In space! Away from Evans Bounces up invitingly! HIT IT! The universe is willing him to score! Instead he chickens out, tries to take it away from Evans, and is crowded out. Oh, Fernando.
76 min Essien! Stings De Gea's palms there. Lovely work from Torres, who took a difficult ball down on his chest before laying back for Essien to run onto and slam towards goal. Chelsea corner. Very poor delivery, but they keep the ball.
74 min Ooooooohhhh, that's close from Hernandez. Romeu gives the ball away unforgivably in midfield, United work it forward at speed and the Mexican steers his shot just wide from a narrow angle to the right of the goal.
73 min United have a corner. Giggs plays it miles backwards torwards Evra, who spreads it again for Scholes. Valencia now on it on the other wing. Cahill heads his cross away, Mata brings it out of danger for Chelsea.
72 min AVB has assumed his squatting position. I forget now, did we decide that was a bad sign?
70 min Sturridge is coming off for Chelsea after something of an uneven day. It's Oriol Romeu coming on in his place.
Goal69 min GOAL!! Chelsea 3 Man Utd 2 (Rooney)
Similar power, different position. Rooney puts it to Cech's left and United are totally, definitely, back in it.
68 min ANOTHER PENALTY FOR UNITED!
Dubious. Welbeck left his foot in and went tumbling over Ivanovic's challenge. Looked a sure shout from where Howard Webb was standing, but that's soft.
67 min Roooooooonnneeeeeeeeeyyyyyy! Oh. Cech's saved. Nice, brisk exchange of passes between Wazza, his hair, and Chicarito. In the end it's a decent shot which Cech just about smothers before Hernandez arrives on the scene.
66 min Luiz finds Malouda with a lovely ball from deep. He tries to pull it back for Torres but Valencia sticks a leg out. It falls for Mata who strikes... De Gea saves it.
64 min Scholes replaces Rafael for United.
62 min Carrick bursts forward from a deep position in midfield. He comes close to sliding in Rooney beyond the backline, Meireles is the saviour for Chelsea, sliding in to intercept the ball.
59 min Incidentally I should probably mention that throughout this game Feridnand has been on the receiving end of some booing and general baiting from Chelsea fans. Sigh.
Goal58 min GOAL!! Chelsea 3 Man Utd 1 (Rooney)
Struck with Julian Dickesque disgust for the football, right into the roof of the net, and United are kinda, sorta, back in it.
57 min PENALTY TO UNITED!
Sturridge bundles over Evra in the box. Harsh. But fair. Just about.
55 min It's snowing a bit at Stamford Bridge. Sir Alex Ferguson and lots of people from Surrey are praying for a lot more and an abandonment.
53 min Young is replaced by Hernandez by a shellshocked United.
Goal51 min GOAL!! Chelsea 3 Man Utd 0 (Luiz)
Just before Mata delivered that free kick a demonic-sounding Chelsea supporter shouted: "It's coming De Gea. It's COMING." It did come. Nice delivery by Mata, Luiz gets away from Ferdinand and heads it in! Took a deflection of Ferdinand as United's defender attempted to attone for letting the Brazillian slip away from him. Wow.
50 min Howard Webb books Evra for a frustrated knee-out movement that sends Sturridge tumbling as he attempts to take it to the byline. Mata to take the free kick out wide.
48 min Torres is on the end of an Ivanovic cross, but can only head it wide.
Goal46 min GOAL!! Chelsea 2 Man Utd 0 (Mata)
What a finish! What. A. Finish. Torres is in space on the right hand flank and delivers an absolutely gorgeous cross that evades United's entire defence. Mata watches it onto his foot and hammers it in at the near post on the volley. Right into the roof of the net. Beautiful goal.
46 min It's the second half. It's a kick off. Chelsea take it without sustaining any injuries, or conceding a goal. That's the main thing.
HALF TIME
45+3 min Giggs slides it centrally for Rooney to have a crack from 30 yards. Cech turns his low shot around the post for a corner. Young delivers after a short routine. It's headed away. That's the half.
45+2 min Another foul, by Mata this time. United free kick just about in shooting range.
45+1 min Two minutes of added time. Ivanovic is booked now for a late challenge on Young. Clumsy. Correct decision.
45 min Ivanovic is penalised for a somewhat mistimed slide tackle on Evra. Debatable, looked like he might have got the ball to me. United free kick, miles out, Giggs spreads it wide. Valencia tries to thread it through for Carrick but Cahill boots it away for a throw.
44 min Malouda with one of those "good idea" passes which implicity don't quite work out. A reverse ball towards a theoretical Fernando Torres who's run into the space that Malouda's imagined he will. He's not having the best of times, Malouda.
43 min It's all United now. They're chucking difficult high balls into the box, but Chelsea are standing tall at the moment. Luiz wins the most recent tricky header and Chelsea come away with the ball.
41 min Another good save by Cech, Welbeck's off-balance shot turned behind for a corner. Valencia plays it back towards Rafael whose deep cross is punched away by the man with the head protecter.
39 min Cech pushes a dipping, curling Young shot away from his goal. Decent save. This game: she is alive. Not with the sound of music, mind. More with the sport of football.
38 min Sturridge again! A long shot this time which De Gea beats away well.
Goal36 min GOAL!! Chelsea 1 Man Utd 0 (Evans OG)
Fantastic work from Sturridge, who takes the ball towards the byline from a claustrophoic tight position in the box, after a period of Chelsea dawdling on the ball. The England striker does superbly to get past his man at glorious speed and squares it with pace across the six yard box. De Gea sticks out a leg, the ball comes back of Evans, and it's in.
35 min United beginning to press Chelsea a little bit more enthusiastically now, which means we're suffering through a stop-start period that's not very interesting.
31 min Jones has gone down under Torres' challenge. The Spaniard did clatter into him a little as he was fighting to get past him and to the ball ahead of De Gea, but then Jones stopped suddenly so it's questionable how much Torres could have done about it. He's booked, harshly,
29 min Great play from Ivanovic! Rooney is played in over the top from a lovely Valencia ball and slides it right, past Cech, towards Welbeck. Ivanovic has kept up with him and slides in faultlessly to clear for a corner when Welbeck would almost certainly have scored. Nothing doing from the corner.
27 min Both teams giving the ball away too cheaply. United try an ambitious long free kick towards Rooney. It's far too high for him, they should have taken that opportunity to hang onto the ball for a bit. Shortly afterwards Chelsea try to drible it out of defence again and this time Carrick is on hand to intercept.
25 min Decent punch this time from De Gea from a deep free kick. Chelsea enjoying the majority of the ball now, but we've not seen enough of Mata yet who'd I'd suggest is crucial if they're going to get in behind United.
23 min Chelsea trying to build something down the left. Bosingwa, Malouda, and Essien doing a good job of making themselves available for one another and passing unerringly around United. In the end Bosingwa tries to take it towards the box but he's easily dispossessed by Valencia, and fouls the winger as he attempts to recover the ball.
22 Chelsea just about have the momentum at the moment but aren't doing a great deal with the possession.
21 Torres has space in which to shoot outside the box but slices his attempt well wide of the post. That was the shot from a man clearly low on confidence.
20 Meireles produces a poor delivery into the box which the United defence clear with ease.
19 Fernando Torres, probably still haunted by his embarrassing miss at Old Trafford, is brought down and Chelsea have a free kick around 35 yards out.
18 Mata lofts a high, deep cross into the area which De Gea comes to catch confidently.
17 Ryan Giggs' cross from the left is well cleared by Cahill. Moments later the ball is at Young's feet outside the box before his shot is deflected into Peter Cech's arms.
16 Patient build-up from Chelsea but the move breaks down after a sloppy pass from Juan Mata to Ivanovic on the right wing.15 Possession is pretty equal so far but at the moment I'd just say United are looking a little more dangerous.
14 Young is too keen to get the ball off Branislav Ivanovic on the United left wing and ends up fouling the Chelsea defender.
13 It's been quite a frantic opening to this clash with both sides trying to go for the jugular.
12 An urgent-looking United side keep pressing but Danny Welbeck is flagged offside in this latest attack.
11 Debutant Gary Cahill is in danger of conceding a penalty as he appears to bring down Young just inside the box...but Webb says no penalty.
10 Clearly Chelsea are trying to test De Gea as much as possible in these early stages.
Jose Bosingwa unleashes a fierce shot at goal from distance which De Gea is able to save comfortably.Ashley Young appeals for a penalty when he goes to ground under pressure from David Luiz but Howard Webb isn't interested.
A nervous David De Gea flaps at what should have been an easy catch, instead pushing the ball into the path of Raul Meireles inside the box. Fortunately the goalkeeper's blushes a sparred when Meireles fires into the side netting.
The delivery is cleared but only as far as Malouda on the edge of the box. The Chelsea man blasts one at goal which takes a deflection and goes behind for another corner.
Sturridge has a shot from distance which takes a deflection before bobbling wide for a corner.
Daniel Sturridge shows quick feet to get down the right side of the area before his tame cross is collected by David De Gea.
Chelsea come forward through the middle with Florent Malouda but the Frenchman's pass is cut out.
Wayne Rooney takes it but his curling effort goes well wide of the goal.
The visitors have an early opportunity having been awarded a free kick just outside the area on the left following Michael Essien's foul on Patrice Evra.
Manchester United get this clash under way at Stamford Bridge looking for the victory which will take them level on points with leaders Manchester City.
